English as an additional language (EAL)

We strongly value the partnership between school, students, and families, which is central to ensuring students with EAL make strong progress and achieve their full potential.

For students who are new to English, we put in place a personalised support plan that clearly identifies individual needs and outlines the additional support provided to develop English language skills. This plan is created in partnership with the student and their parents or carers to ensure a shared understanding of support and expectations.

Our staff receive regular training in effective approaches to supporting students with English as an Additional Language (EAL) and apply these strategies consistently in their teaching. Where appropriate, students may also receive targeted one-to-one or small group support to accelerate their English language development. Any additional intervention is carefully planned with clear objectives and timescales and is agreed in consultation with the student and their parents or carers.
