Life Experiences Survey

To support our SEND students, all pupils complete a Life Experiences Survey when they join IGHS in Year 7. This helps us build a clear understanding of each student’s previous experiences, confidence levels, and any gaps in real-life skills or opportunities.

We use this information to plan a personalised and inclusive enrichment programme, designed to meet individual needs and support students’ independence, confidence, and social communication. Activities and visits are carefully structured, scaffolded, and supported by staff to ensure SEND students can access new experiences in a safe and meaningful way.

Our curriculum enrichment offer for SEND students is reviewed and adapted annually in response to the survey outcomes, ensuring provision remains responsive to the needs of each year group.

The survey includes accessible, age-appropriate questions such as:

• Have you ever been to the theatre?
• Have you ever tried climbing or ice skating?
• Have you ever read a newspaper?
• Have you ever been to the post office and sent a letter?
